After our friends purchased stoves we decided to make the leap and get one as well. We didn't know anything about stoves or brands so went for a name we knew AGA also we wanted a mid priced stove We choose the LUDLOW SE since we live in a smoke controlled area. We also we sold by the one year parts and FIVE year guarantee on the cast We've used the stove since May this year and are generally very pleased with it. The build quality is exceptionally well made Its easy to removed the baffles to properly clean the stove The area on top is ideal for the kettle or casserole pot The Firebox is large fits Good sized logs The air wash works very well with the correct fuel Well seasoned logs and the fire gives out good heat throughout the house and stays warm overnight even though the fire has gone out The only negatives I've found are Being a defra stove you cannot close off all the air supply at the top IF the stove starts burning too hot it's impossible to close off and dull Down which seems dangerous??! All you can do is fully open the door and hope it cools Down (I'd prefer the top air inlet to close fully) When you open the door be careful not to cut or scratch you arm on the other side of the handle its sharp. The spinning valve is one notch which isn't as good as the aga little wenlocks spinning valve centre piece to control Apart from this we love the stove... []

  • A winter with a Ludlow

    Malcolm Bailey 6 years ago

We have used this little gem for a full winter - needing to run central heating for only 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour to pre-heat the bedrooms at night. With access to free wood - the energy... []

Stove expert replied: The stove fans that sit on the top are very good at distributing the heat and are worth the outlay, highly recommended.

  • Great stove!!

    Kara 7 years ago

The main point I have to make is 'use the correct fuels' ie properly seasoned wood, and/or quality coal and you won't go wrong. If you use substandard fuel then yes it will get a bit dirty... []

Stove expert replied: Drying washing around a stove is tempting but be mindful that the moisture will have to go somewhere and can cause mold and consenation. Stove seems to be working well and as will all models the fuel is key to what heat you can chieve.

I really liked the look of the Ludlow; having read the reviews was slightly sceptical but decided to go for it...very disappointed. I have a Clear View in my hall and itís a far superior stove... []

Stove expert replied: Changing the rope to a thicker one may not solve the problem, stoves are fitted with the rope correct for its needs. Have you looked at adjusting the door to get a better seal?

  • Great stove but beware dealing with AGA

    Phil Harrison 7 years ago

Very nice looking & high quality sturdy little stove, excellent output & easy to control. Solid enough to last forever. Firebox poss too small to burn overnight? Airwash not great but no worse... []
