Clear glass issues

I have recently installed the Aga Ludlow multi fuel and am very pleased with it overall. It lights easily and soon gets up to temperature but I seem to be cleaning the glass door every day. The instruction manual fails to give clear direction about how/when to open/shut the tertiary control rod and if anyone can give me some advice that would be great.
