Love the stove but finding it really hard to get a good flame burn. The logs just seem to smoulder with a few flames. Draw on chimney seems fine. Could the logs be too damp?
Stove expert replied: Have you a moisture meter to check the content is less than 20%, really recommend having one to insure the stove has the best chance to perform as expected. Damp wood makes the stove struggle and can cause flue problems so not recommended.
We had this stove installed in Feb 2014, we had big problems with it drawing too much, had the installer back three times to try different things with the air control. He even fitted a storm... [ read more ]
Stove expert replied: Is the chimney lined and was a damper used to see if better control was gained? Strange that fitting a cowl made so much difference, what type of cowl was fitted? It may not be the stove but an installation / flue problem.

We bought the Charnwood c5 in November and have been burning wood and the correct type of coal but it is very messy - every time you open the door a load of ash spills onto the hearth. Are we... [ read more ]
Stove expert replied: It may pay you to try a different type of fuel as some produce far more ash than others. Once you have put the fuel into the stove, move it towards the back so that the ash produced is kept away from the door. Once you have riddles to stove leave the ash to settle before enptying the ashpan and this will minimze ash particles in the room when you open the door.
...The upright plate that restrains the fuel falls backwards into the fire making it difficult to refuel the stove. What am I doing wrong?
Stove expert replied: Is it located into the holding brackets?
We have had a C5 now for a month, it burns realy well, but burns away too quickly, cant keep it in all night. Done the paper test in the door and the rope looks fine, it seems to me that I cant... [ read more ]
Stove expert replied: This stove is Defra Approved to meet current smoke controlled area requirements. Therefore the air control will always allow air to bleed through the stove and can't be closed off completely hence you are not able to get overnight burn. Do you notice a change in the rate of burn when you operate the air control, if it does not alter the rate of burn you may also have an over drawing flue that is sucking the air and heat out of the stove too quickly. This may need a check from the installer and if the draw is excessive a damper or stabilizer can help to solve this.
Must admit disappointed so far with the performance, I struggle to get the stove really roaring, even with combination of door slightly open/control knob full out.Cannot understand why, it replaced... [ read more ]
Stove expert replied: Has the chimney been lined? Is there enough free air in the room? Different models allow varying amounts of air through the vents, insuring enough free air in the room is very important.
