Review of Westfire 23 stove

Westfire 23

Jamie Smith

We have had our Westfire for over 4 years, a fantastic fire, controllable, you can have it roaring away or turn it down so the wood gas flames just hang there. Ash pan is tiny so don't let it build up otherwise it leaves ash in the bottom. The glass stays crystal clear with a little soot behind the front bar. Practice required for a successful lighting. Very efficient fire can take an hour to devour an oak log and with loads of heat output.

The first year of having it was a nightmare, a lesson in a bad/mismatched flu. It performed the opposite of the above although it was easier to light!. It was on an insulated clay 10" flue, suffering from condensation, no control, poor burning and sooted glass. A 5" s/steel twinwall liner has transformed the fire into a pleasure.

Stove expert replied: Lining a large flue will undoubtedly make a great difference to how a stove performs and will pay for itself in improved heat output and the amount of fuel used.
