Review of Tiger stove
tiger 5kw
just moved into a rental house with coal fire in lounge and multi fuel stove in kitchen. we love the house but my friend has said her stove heats the whole house but mine doesn't. it goes out very quickly unless we put a 2hr burner log on it and the landlord said we should have the window open when using it, which defeats the idea of heating the room. please advise on how to get the best heat from it and what is best to use. It is set in a brick fireplace and is properly installed. I've seen these compressed paper logs and wondered if they would be better.
Stove expert replied: Smokeless fuels vary in the amount of heat they generate and the amount of ash they produce so I would suggest trying a few before buying in bulk. You should be able to use the stove without the window being open, an air vent may be required in the room if the stove is not performing well or if teh room is very well insulated. The clearance round the stove should be at least 150mm either side and back with 300mm above to allow for the heat to radiate freely into the room. Has a liner been installed, this helpos to provide the best conditions for the stove to function if it is into a traditional chimney. What output stove does your friend have as 5kW's may not be large enough to heat more than the room that the stove is installed in!
