If the fire burns wood too fast, leave the ash in and just remove enough to run the fire. It does not take long to learn how much. We run a wood only burn, small fire, clean glass occasionally using white wood ash on a damp cloth, (infallible).

No flue liner All the heat we need.

But where can I get a new back fire brick?
