Review of Stratford TF70 stove

Aarrow TF70 stoves

Robert Edwards

Bought this stove almost 3 years ago as I was having a heating system put into my newly purchased home, and I thought as I had access to a friends well established mixed woodland (where I could cut all the dangerous trees, take all standing dead trees and any other dead trees/boughs that I found) I would have plenty of wood to burn. It has not been the case as the fire eats wood at a terrible rate. I have exhausted all dead/dangerous trees and am having to buy a cube of seasoned softwood a week,(would prefer hardwood but cost is to high) to keep the fire going to try and get a decent temperature in the house. Have 13 various sized radiators and the two furthest from the pump are always only barely warm. The clips for the glass are a stupid idea as twice the glass has fallen out(when the fire was alight). Parts are expensive and now the riddling bars don't stay where they should so the ash falls through and misses on the outside of the ash can (ash can is to small). Wish I had got oil instead.

Stove expert replied: Has the trim become loose on the front of the door as this holds the glass clips in place? If it has and you are using lots of fuel the stove may be over-drawing (due probably to the flue draw). If over-drawing then this leads to distortion of other componenets (grates etc). Regarding the radiators furthest from the pump not getting hot, this could be due to the stove not producing enough heat (as in the case of over-drawing) much of the heat produced will be going up the chimney or the system has not been balanced correctly. Also as the wood is being taken from a woodland I doubt that it is dry and seasoned which will certainly not allow for the best heat production in a stove.I strongly recommend that further investigation of this system be carried out as distortion of the stove body can occur if it is a flue draw problem.
