Review of Stovax Riva 40 multi fuel

Riva 40

After looking at reviews on this and other sites I decided to take the plunge and buy the Riva 40 for my first stove. The size of room meant that I needed about 5kW to heat it anyway.

I've only had the stove for a week and it's not that cold outside but first impressions are...

It's really controllable, even for a novice. Establishing a fire and keeping it going is so easy. I followed all the advice and bought good logs < 20% moisture. Heat output is really good once it's up to temperature. I haven't tried burning it overnight but I reckon I'd need to use smokeless coal to keep it lit for that amount of time.

Only thing to watch out for... I got mine installed into an existing fireplace with granite around the fire and marble around the granite. After the fire has been lit for a while you couldn't touch the granite directly above the riva, and the marble is really hot too. I think the convected air goes straight up the fireplace.. Having said that it doesn't seem to cause any problems and with up to 5kW of heat leaving I guess some of it will heat the surround.

All in all I definitely recommend it, it's an expensive option for 5kW but you do seem to get what you pay for. (p.s. it's installed with flexi liner which the installer said definitely improved efficiency)

Stove expert replied: Good feedback on this stove, it does pay to use seasoned, dry wood for best results.
