Review of Newbourne 40FS stove
Fire bricks
We have had our Newborne 40fs since the end of November (3 months) and had to replace the top (roof) fire brick 3 times already! We are definitely not banging it and seems to split and fall into the fire when it is burning? Already spent £90 for 2 replacements so quite frustrated that this is happening. Please can you advise why and suggest what we can do to prevent it? Thank you. Also the glass has a foggy, white look which does spoil the effect a little.
Stove expert replied: The glass discolouring with a white milky shadow is normally caused by the stove over-firing, this may be down to operator error or an over -drawing flue. If the stove is not controllable, so that you can achieve a gentle flame picture, then the flue draw should be taken and if it exceeds the manufacturers guidelines this needs to be rectified. Either a flue damper or stabilizer is required to prevent further damage. The top brick breaking 3 times in such a short space of time may indicate an over-drawing flue and if you get this corrected the problem may be resolved.
