Review of Morso 6140 stove

I love my stove

Malcolm 12 years ago

The comments about lighting are reasonable, it takes a while to get hot but once the fire box is glowing red then its great and wood can be easily added. It’s just a bit of a balancing act getting it up to temperature. This stove has worked better than hoped for. We fire it every evening and even in the coldest days over the last 2 winters it has allowed the heating to stay off overnight and seriously reduced the time the heating is on. The stove is central in the house and the chimney also radiates some heat into the upstairs hall. For a normal evening it usually uses 3 logs to get it fully up to heat then perhaps 1 each half hour. Before bed I normally squeeze 2 extra logs in and leave it keeping the chill off the house.

The ash tray is small but I don’t clean it too often and it all packs down. It is a bit messy and the door should be opened slowly as some ash will jump out, no real issue. The glass is easy to clean; a damp kitchen towel is all that is needed then dried with a clean tissue. Cleaning the stove is easy though you do need to carefully squeeze the linings in and out. The fire box lining is delicate and you should not throw logs in. The door seal is compressing after 2 years use so air is getting in, I will replace it soon, should not be an issue.

The only other point worth comment is the amount of wood you can get through. The wood all needs storage and moving backwards and forwards. Children only help so much. Otherwise I love it and everyone should have one.

Stove expert replied: Ash should not be left to build up in the ash pan as this can shorten the grate system, it should be removed as soon as the stove has bee riddled!
