Review of Morso 04 stove

Morso 04 design problems

Martin Joyce 11 years ago

I've had one of these for a couple of years now and it's OK but I'm not wonderfully impressed. This may be partly because the Morso 04 seems happiest burning wood and unfortunately I generally run it on smokeless these days. Smokeless takes longer to heat up in my experience. But what has prompted me to post this review is a design fault which has really started to annoy me. It seems that it takes very little soot build-up to block the flue outlet on the 04. Your room then fills with smoke and much alarm and consternation ensues. What bugs me is that to remove the blockage you have to dismantle the entire stove starting with the grate at the bottom and proceeding to the firebricks. Only then can you remove the baffle plate whereon sits the blockage. I have had other stoves which have given me much less anguish in this respect and I think the designers should have paid more attention here. I'm sorry to have to post this negative comment but there seems no way to contact Morso direct.

Stove expert replied: It is a recommendation for all stoves to be checked at least monthly to insure that the flue way is clear, if it is blocking up more frequently then the stove is not being worked hard enough or the fuel could be at fault.
