Review of Little Thurlow stove
The dogs love it!
Like most reviewers, I have spent much time searching for a well made, reliable log burner. The Little Thurlow is as others have said before me, a little belter! I have deliberately waited 3 months before writing this review in order to test it fully, and given our unfortunate weather his year, the Thurlow has been working to the max.
We have a very large living room-diner and the the Thurlow copes no problem. It takes about 20 minutes to heat the room up and maintains this with ease. Although, I have to say that this is assisted by the Eco Fan, also discussed by some users, and in my opinion, well worth the extra cost. In wanting to offer a fair appraisal, I do need to say that the glass does fog up slightly over time. I have opened the airwash vents fully as this maximises the amount of time between cleaning. The glass is very easy to clean, a bit of newspaper, sometimes dipped in ash, and off it comes like new. Given that modern burners are not designed to burn over night, or so I am led to believe, it is difficult to score the stove. I do know that wood doesn't maintain embers overnight, and that coal is much better. I use a flue thermometer, which is excellent for maintaining a steady temperature. This is where the vents really come in to play, helping to regulate the burn rate perfectly. Would I buy another or recommend to a friend, absolutely! Our biggest challenge is trying to get near it-the dogs appear to have the monopoly here. A huge thank you to all who have written reviews before me. All hail the Thurlow.Stove expert replied: Stove Thermometers are a good investment as it helps to insure that it is being used correctly.
