Review of Klover Smart 120 wood pellet cooker

Honest review.

We''ve had our Klover smart 120 for 1 year now.

We live in a 200+sqm converted Steading with 600mm solid walls (no insulation) in a drafty location in Scotland.

We were previously on LPG (bulk tank) and changed over last winter.

Our installer was fantastic, that''s my first point, make sure you use someone who knows about these boilers and talk through everything related to your house demands and your lifestyle (cooking, hot water and holidays!).

Dont let the RHI payment lure you into going with this boiler/cooker.

There is a Fbook group thats very active (and helpful)for the owners to discuss problems and different ways of running the boiler.

(So far) I cant fault the build quality, it appears to be very well made.

The interface could be more user friendly but now that it''s set up for our lifestyle I''ve not touched it in months.

It has 5 power levels and a 36kg hopper. I wish that the hopper was bigger, especially when we go away on holiday over winter. Its impossible to keep the heating on just a little bit like you could with oil or gas.

Regarding the power levels, you won''t be disappointed! This thing can get very very hot, we only use power level 1 or 2 and have it on for long periods of time. On power level 1 it uses 1.2kg of pellets an hour and keeps 10 radiators at 63°c (hob covers on) which is fantastic value for money (£2.55/10KG bag).

The hot plate is fantastic but manage your expectations when it comes to using the oven (we have a separate electric fan oven and induction hob for over summer).

We have a 200l tank for our hot water. We dont use the klover to heat it as it''s very slow and hard to monitor. We have a 4kw solar PV system that heats this tank via solar i-boost which provides all our hot water from April - September (electric immersion, electric shower and instant hot water tap the rest of the time).

The klover does take 45mins before it starts to heat any radiators, a hive thermostat (or other app controlled thermostat) is a good investment.

You get out what you put in... be prepared for filling with pellets daily through winter.

Cleaning is no problem, takes 5 minutes each week and one bigger clean that takes 30 mins once a month.

There are 2 main things I would change on the klover, the pellet hopper is too small for going away on holiday (I would like a funnel attachment you could buy to fit on top that would take 100kgs).

And I wish there was a setting to have it run at a certain power level for a set period of time.

We also have a Dik Geurts iver 8 multi fuel stove in our living room that''s on daily between October and April.

Compared with our previous heating (lpg) the klover is absolutely fantastic, not only is our house much warmer but its also far cheaper to run.

With this in mind I would definitely recommend it and I would buy it again, but if I didn''t have the extra hob/oven, solar PV, electric boost on immersion tank, spare electric shower, hot water tap and wood burning stove I might struggle to have the same enthusiasm.

They are not cheap to buy/install but we are saving around £800 a year compared with our previous bills but savings or RHI shouldn''t be the deciding factor when choosing this type of boiler.
