Review of hunter Herald 5 slimline stove

Very disappointed, chose this stove as I have a large fireplace but had to keep to 5KW Have had for 4 winters now. It is almost impossible to regulate - I didn;t even realise that there was a bottom vent it is so insignificant. Open or shut the fire ignites the same. Most occasions I can get a good fire going with the top vent open BUT there doesn''t appear to be any adjustment, it''s either open or closed and closed the fire barely fundtions, and the airwash system most certainly doesn''t. I didn''t realise that it would be impossible to put in more than one decent size log so I manage to top up with a couple of fire logs. Keep the top vent open, as I previously said it is either open or shut, nothing in between, and the fire roars away and the fuel lasts hardly any time. Shut it down and I would be better advised to put the gas central heating on!! Is this an installation error? Two installers have now looked at it and assured me all is ok. I have adequate ventilation in the room - so many drafts that I didn''t want to have a higher rated model necessitating an air bricks. Would be grateful for any comments, please
Stove expert replied: The installation and user manual would offer advice on air controls and would mention the use of the bottom vent. The bottom vent should be used for lighting and if a multifuel stove, when burning smokeless fuel. The top air control should be used to control the wood burning. Logs must be dry and well seasoned and burn correctly to keep the glass clean. Your fitter would usually commission the stove and also explain how to use it correctly.
