I've not had other stoves to compare this to, we moved into a house with this built in. I have to say it took me a few months of asking, reading and experimenting to get the best from this stove - but now after replacing some gaskets I have to say this is a beauty. To avoid smoke coming in the room, I give it more air from the top vent and have the door ajar to get it to flame, then you can open (slowly) without getting any smoke in the room. If you leave the door ajar for a while after lighting it, wait for 15min to get some good flames, I close the door and all the vents and it keeps burning. If it dies down too much I would then have the top vent open very slightly and I mean very slightly open. Anyway I'm getting it down to a fine art - sounds funny but its better than TV!

Stove expert replied: I can't stress enough that each stove and each installation is different and it can take time to find what suits you and your stove best. Do not give up but take the time to learn where the controls are best.
