Review of Hunter Herald 14 stove

Smoke gets in your eyes!

Darrell 12 years ago

This is the second Herald 14 I have bought. The first was 7 years ago and still works great, can even run it with the doors open. I bought my second Herald 14 last year to go in another building and am very disappointed. This new stove has their improved baffle. So smoky! Can't top up the wood without filling the room with smoke. Even when it has been burning for half an hour smoke pours out of the top if I open the airwash system. I know you will tell me that I need the flue testing but what is the difference to the flue for the old one. I told a friend to get one of these stoves last year. He has a new build with double lined insulated flue, he can't use his stove because smoke pours out of the airwash vent. Avoid!

Stove expert replied: Every flue system is different and even in the same house with more than one flue they can vary so yes, you are right my advice is to get this checked out as it may be a simple case of extending! Is the chimney lined and if so was it insulated? It is certainly worth investigating further as it is an expensive ornament if you are not using it due to the smoke problem.
