Air vents - questions

Hi, I have FB Lorraine. I have difficulty sliding grate in after cleaning stove. I also am not sure if the door handle also an air vent for wood burn? I understand wood burns from top air flow..so I close bottom and twist the doors handle open By one turn and for higher burn I pull both doors out very slightly-is this correct? Should I when banking the fire when I go out close down everything or will it go out?
