Review of Firefox 8 stove

firefox 8 multifuel stove

Steve

We bought this off the net used 4 times and the guys mother didn't like it because it didn't look like her tiger gas stove!! he removed it and fitted a tiger multifuel stove for her. As for our stove it is superb, it is so easy to light, we have twin wall selkirk flue with anti draught cowl and have never had any problems at all with smoke in the room. Before opening the door we open the bottom damper, then slowly open door. It heats our bungalow a treat, we open the bottom damper to get it going then its fully closed, we leave the airwash damper just slightly open or closed and the fire ticks over quietly, in fact we have yet to use it full bore so to speak. We first lit it in the second week in january and our gas c/h hasn't been on since and we haven't as yet bought a single stick just pallets and scrap wood from a local fence and shed manufacturer who is glad to give it away as they otherwise have to pay for its disposal.

We fill it with wood before going to bed and there are usually still glowing embers in the morning and a few bits of small wood and with full bottom draw its away again.

At first we did find it a very dry heat but we overcame this by buying an old copper kettle from ebay we keep it full of water and it quietly / slowly steams away putting moisture in the room.

I bought a set of sweeping rods and a brush and I sweep it once a month by removing firebricks and top inner plate then sweep through the stove, about a 20 minuet job.

All in all this is the best thing we have ever invested in for our home, with the only regret being that we didn't do it years ago and really glad we have the 8kw as we have the option of running it on tickover which is more than adequate or opening the dampers to get more out of it.

Stove expert replied: It is not recommended to use a stove for prolonged periods of slow burn without short periods of fast burn to maintain a clear flue, if the stove is being used 24/7 then at least two periods of fast burn for approx 15 - 20mins should be undertaken.
