Review of Firefox 8 stove

Firefox 8 Multifuel stove

Claire James

We are really pleased with our Firefox. It represents fantastic value for money by comparison to many others on the market. However, we have been disappointed by the amount of heat the fire generates, we now wish we had bought a larger model as it really doesn't even sufficiently heat the room its in never mind any other room in the house. It is a big room we are trying to heat and there are a couple of rooms leading off it with no doors so I guess this is why we don't feel a huge benefit from the fire. Also the fire has been set in an "inglenook type" fireplace rather than actually right in the room so this probably affects the heat benefit.

The only negative comment we can make about the design of the fire is the difficulty in cleaning out the ash which accumulates underneath and to the sides of the ash tray. You can't easily get in the gaps with anything other than a hoover and thus we have trashed the hoover!

We have had no problems with cracking of the fire bricks as mentioned by others and the glass always cleans up lovely. Its a lovely looking fire and we love the double doors so we can open them up and really enjoy the fire.

We would definitely recommend the fire but must stress you need to think about how you are going to clean out the bottom in advance so you can buy in a small hand held hoover rather than ruin one you use for the rest of the house.

Stove expert replied: Providing a gap of 150mm either sied and back with 300mm above the stove has been left then the stove should be able to heat a reasonable space. Was the calculation undertaken to find ou the kW output required undertaken before puchase?
