how to use the vents on the fire

could you please tell me how to use the vents when burning smokeless coal, also the top vent doesn't seem to move very far, when trying to use it but overall I'm totally satisfied with my stove, it keeps out house lovely and cosy.

Stove expert replied: If your stove is a Smoke Exempt version then the top control will not move very much so that the flue gases are diluted to comply with the restrictions for smoke controlled areas. The bottom vents will allow air to enter the stove from the bottom and should be open more for burning smokeless fuel and can be shut down (this depends on flue draw) when burning wood.
