In response to Adrians tweeks.

Im finding it hard to comprehend what you mean. Are you saying take out the grate assembly all together and burn the logs straight in the ash pan?

Stove expert replied: If you do this then the bottom of the stove will eventually burn through, all metal surfaces with direct contact to heat should be protected by liners or the baffle at the top.
