Review of Firefox 5 stove
Great little stove for the price!!!
We have had this stove now for two years, it is fitted with a 904 double skinned flexi liner and is top vented. \n\nIt is fitted in a 65m cubed room in a 1946 semi. The room opens onto an open stair well which leads to a landing and three bedrooms.\n\nDuring the winter when fully stoked it heats this whole area to a pleasant 19-20C without the aide of central heating. \n\nWe burn seasoned dry wood almost completely but may burn coal or peat if we wish to keep the stove in over night. The fire box is quite small and the vents do not shut down completely so it took a little experimenting to get a through the night burn combo.\n\nWe have a 5 litre stove top kettle which we boil which gives us plenty hot water for teas, cooking and hot water bottles.\n\nThis stove has been fantastic the only small negatives are that the vents when closed still allow slightly to much air through so the burn rate when closed is quite high. \n\nThe stove has a great draft and the top vent plate can rattle a little when it is windy outside.\n\nAs mentioned in a previous review the door pins can work their way loose over time (6 months) I used to knock them in with the poker but have since bell mouthed the bottom of the pins with a punch, problem solved.\n\nThese very minor issues do not detract from what is a superb little stove which is well built and great value for money.\n\nIf in doubt get one!!!!\n\n
Stove expert replied: Glad to see hinge pin problem solved by simple modification. If you get a Defra Approved version then it does not shut down fully so that it complies to the requirement for smoke control areas.
