Review of Esse Ironheart cooking range

Esse Ironheart

Howard Simpson 15 years ago

The stove is much lighter in weight that I expected, since it's built mainly of steel rather than iron. It burns dry wood very well, but is useless for burning coal even though it's described as a multi-fuel stove. This is partly because there is no riddle and perhaps insufficient air flow beneath the grate. The body of the stove is prone to rust, whilst the area around the iron hotplates gets oil-stained from cooking, and thus very difficult to clean properly. Rusting parts will need to be paint-sprayed once a year with appropriate stove paint. Although an attractive looking stove (provided the fire glass is cleaned every day), overall the Ironheart hasn't quite lived up to my expectations.
