Review of Esse 500 stove
Esse 500
I bought this stove 5 years ago, it gets a paint job each spring (BBQ black paint). It gets really hot with well seasoned logs, and smokeless coal for nice background heat, it banks really well overnight too. I have a kettle always on the go but it takes time to get hot (not really meant for it). The airwash lever doesn't seem to do much either way you move it, but the glass stays clear except over night when you get a few streaks. The door handle is after 5 years a bit fidley, but it gets a lot of use! NOTE To clean the glass, I use a damp pan scourer (the soft non stick type) then wipe clean and dry with kitchen roll. Important to make sure the glass is warm before closing the door or you'll soot up! A great stove, but you must know its "ways" to get the best from it. One of my all time best buys!!!!\n\n
Stove expert replied: beware of cleaning the glass whilst warm or you are liable to crack it. A very slightly damp cloth with a LITTLE clean ash on it rubbed in gentle circular motions, then wiped off with a clean cloth should also do the trick. A nice hot burn will also tend to burn off any more stubborn tar deposits on the window. If they fail to budge after that it may be a sign that your wood is damp or that there is something up with the chimney draw.
