Review of Coalbrookdale Severn stove

Disappointed

Julie Mulvana 6 years ago

We've recently moved and inherited a Coalbrookdale Severn the only air vent is on the thermostat, it also has a boiler and heats some radiators. Our problem is it takes s couple of hours to get the fire hot enough to heat the water burning lots of logs with the thermostat on 8 which makes it too hot in the lounge.

Our second problem is the glass has burnt on soot and tar (as well as on the interior) baked on the glass which has to be cleaned daily.

I would be grateful for any advice / help to solving these problems

Stove expert replied: You will only get out of a stove what you put in it so do insure that wood is dry and well seasoned with a moisture content of less than 20%. Depending on how this has been installed, priority would normally be given to the hot water cylinder before the radiator circuit can function. If you use smokeless fuel on the stove it may pay to try alternative products as they vary greatly on their efficiency, ash production etc.
