Review of Coalbrookdale Severn stove

Why does my coalbrookdale severn give off any heat ?

Heather 9 years ago

I have moved into a property which has an existing coalbrookdale severn installed. It has been disconnected as a boiler, and is purely a fire. I understand that the fire is far too big for the room and that a 5kw would be more than sufficient for my needs.

However, in spite of having chimney swept, a myriad of people coming to give advice, and countless attempts to achieve some heat from it- it has proved fruitless.

The fire has no vents to allow the flow of air. I have put back the fire bricks to reduce the overall heating area, and have banked the fire up, and still no heat.

I have been told it may be the flue, the cowl. Because I live in an old property there is no air vent in the room, so I tried leaving the doors open to achieve a through draught. In it's defence it does have a good draw !

Please help !

Stove expert replied: Any boiler stove must not be used unless connected to the water system, they are not designed to use as a dry stove. If this is not going to be used to heat water / central heating it should be removed and a suitable model installed in its place. Is the chimney lined as it is recommended for modern efficient stoves in a property older than approx 50yrs, depending on chimney type and size. I recommend getting professional advice so that you can enjoy the warmth from a stove that suits your needs / requirements.
