Review of Clearview Pioneer 400 stove

Great little stove

Peter Mahaffey 13 years ago

We bought this stove as our only form of heating for a very large bedroom and its been fine. It would also heat a small living room without difficulty. After all, 4 KW is a LOT of heat.......remember those twin bar fires which were 2 x 750 or sometimes 2 x 1kw! However, as with wood stoves at the extremes of the range (this being Clearview's smallest) control takes a bit more skill & experience. This will certainly stay in overnight with a good prior bed of ashes (8 hrs no problem. My main gripe is the rather small size of the ash-pan compared to other Clearviews and relatively speaking. It'll do two days at a pinch. Would be good to cook on in a small kitchen too. Takes 35 cm logs, but not many of them, perhaps 2 max!\n\n

Stove expert replied: The ash pans should be emptied at least every day to insure that the ash does not build up under the grate system which will shorten the grates life.
