Review of Clearview Pioneer 400 stove

Brilliant Stove

R Ellis

Have the 400 with stainless steel back boiler for my hot water cylinder.

It burns still as cleanly as my friend's 400 without the boiler. Even burning house coal it doesn't soot the glass. Before lighting a damp piece of kitchen roll easily cleans glass (though it never gets too bad). House coal burns well but be careful not to burn too hard as the flames could set chimney on fire. This is still better value than the more expensive smokeless coal which puts out less heat. I reckon chimney sweeping will be required every 6 months as lit every day and burning mainly house coal.

I live in 2 bed semi and have turned all my storage heating and immersion heater off, the heat rises through the house and backboiler does all my hot water

I used it with the 6" flexiliner in an old unlined brick chimney. Def worth doing the lining, even if means taking a brick or two out.

It is much better than other stoves I've used that don't have the pre-heated airwash (any stove with a vent control about the door only puts warm air onto the glass,) in contrast the clearview 400 has control that takes air in at the base and preheats it before piping it to above the glass- better combustion, less soot on glass and in flue.

After using for a week I got the ecofan. A must-have. Stopped the recess bricks and lintel heating up as much and really pumps the heat out where you can feel it.

Prob a little over priced but I didn't see another multifuel stove that is as good, and I've used others in various houses that pumpmed smoke and ash out into the room when refueling etc.

Have not tried to keep in overnight, but quite often I'll open the primary and it will start to glow anyhow in the morning, so easy to light slumbering it overnight is a waste of fuel except in very cold weather.

Good ashpan. Would highly recommend.

Stoev Expert Replied: Check if Household coal is recommened for the appliance as you may have invalidated the warranty by using it. Household coal burns with a longer flame and may expose internal components to temperatures that are too high and can lead to premature failure of components. Generally household coal is not recommended for use in closed appliances unless the manufacturer specifies differently.
