Review of Clearview Pioneer 400 stove

Cat loves it!

Like most people I did loads of internet research into which stove would be best and talked to other stove owners. It came down to Clearview Pioneer 400 or a Hunter, depending on the cost of installation. Through word of mouth I found a HETAS installer whose cost of installing a twin wall flue system and my brick fireplace design meant I could afford a Clearview. He had 2 Clearview stoves himself which was a good advert! I live in a 2 bedroom semi with added conservatory which has no radiator. The fire is installed using the rear flue, which goes straight out from the back of the stove into a twin wall flue system on the outside wall. I have had a one or two problems lighting the stove when the pressure has forced cold air down the chimney and smoke into the room but I can tell when this will happen and a hairdryer inside for a few minutes before lighting forces the cold air up and allows the fire to draw ok. I use 6 sheets of newspaper, kindling and one match to get it going and there are no problems getting it to and running it at the required optimum temperature. The glass stays clean apart from a bit of residue at the bottom which appears when it is burning itself out overnight and this is easily cleaned in the morning with kitchen roll and ash. Since installing the stove in my 16'x11' lounge, I have not had to have any extra heat in the adjoining unheated conservatory as the heat from the stove easily keeps both rooms at around 22/24 degrees. When the conservatory door is shut, the heat keeps everywhere else warm and I have noticed the gas boiler is hardly ever coming on. The Clearview has been lit everyday since being installed at the beginning of January 2013 and I have used approx £100 of hardwood in about 6 weeks but I hope this will even out with a reduction in the gas/electric bill as the oil filled radiator in the conservatory is now redundant. Overall I am really pleased with my investment as it is a warming focal point to a previously boring lounge and if my cat could talk, he would say how much he is enjoying toasting himself in front of it in the evenings! Although the Clearview stoves appear to be expensive compared to other makes, I think it is worth paying the extra to get a stove that is so easy to use.
