Review of Charnwood Country 4 stove

Excellent stove for the price

Lee Parsons 13 years ago

After many nights deliberating over which stove (and there are many!) would suit us, our budget and our small fireplace recess, we settled on the Country 4. We like to try and support British products where possible and this settled that for us as well. The stove itself is the wood burning only model as, what with the price of coal it would negate any potential savings for us having the multi-fuel option. Luckily, i have three friends working for two differing tree surgeons and so wood is not a problem for me. The stove itself is built well and solid with a wonderful black finish. The controls all work smoothly with no sticking. The stove itself is very easy to light with dry kindling and the dry logs soon take and it isn't very long before the stove starts to heat up. I'd say a good hour and it's up to working temperature emitting heat around the room (5m x 4m) and through to the rest of the house beyond. It's not an option to get it to 'stay in' through the night but to be honest, but a quick addition of paper and kindling on the hot embers in the morning and you're away again! The controls work well and the airwash seems to do a half decent job but it will still blacken the glass in places to a degree, a quick wipe over with a damp j-cloth does the trick. It probably consumes 2/3 logs an hour i guess but maybe i'm still trying to balance the air controls and it may be i'm running it a bit fast. It's a damn sight less hungry than the open fire that preceded it that's for sure!\nI'd say for the money it's a n excellent stove. I wish i'd put a stove in earlier, we haven't needed the central heating on in our three bed, well insulated semi since installing it. Highly recommended!!\n\n

Stove expert replied: once the stove is going well shut down the primary air control (as long as that doesn't put the fire out) and control it using the secondary.
