Review of Charnwood Country 4 stove

Charnwood Country 4. Quality is Slipping

Ellen Doughty 15 years ago

The Stove leaks fumes into the room. It appears there was a leak around the door seal. The riddling mechanism keeps sticking and the paint keeps flaking from the top surface. When you pay almost £600 for a stove you expect better quality than this.\n\n

Stove expert replied: the fumes leaking into the room points to a problem with the chimney rather than a problem with the stove. The chimney should provide a decent negative pressure in the stove so that even if there were a hole in the stove - the most extreme case of this being when you open the doors of course - smoke should not get into the room. Things to look for here are: is the chimney insulated? how high is it? are there higher structures or trees nearby? is the room with the stove in well ventilated? These are questions for the installer really. With regard to the paint flaking off and the riddling mechanism sticking these are definitely things to bring up with the retailer. The paint should not flake off and I would expect the retailer to come to a resolution to that probably by a rub down and respray. The riddling mechanism sticking may point to a casting that has not been ground down or perhaps something stuck in the stove, for example a nail again something to bring up with the retailer.
