Review of Charnwood Country 4 stove

A wellmade well behaved little stove.

The Charnwood Country 4 (wood only) stove is a reasonably priced, well built British stove with unfussy styling, a large glass door and a convenient wooden handle. It is a sensible choice for a small to medium sized room in that it is small enough not to overheat the room and responsive enough to heat it quickly when opened up.It also keeps the core of my Nineteenth Century House warm and has cut my gas bills by a third.

I have run mine 24/7 for the past 5 months at 300 to 400C. It burns down overnight but every morning I clear out some ash, add a little dry bark and kindling and it fires up immediately after I briefly open the primary vent.

The secondary vent controls normal heating. My wood is dry and is cut no longer than 12 inches. I burn a barrowload every two days. I have a 5 inch stainless steel flue which provides a strong draft. Altogether it behaves perfectly and I would thoroughly recommend this sturdy little stove.

I would also recommend purchasing a metal ash pan. a wood moisture meter, a cheap magnetic stove thermometer, an Ecofan (to blow the heat across the room) and a pair of sturdy gloves.
