Review of Charnwood Country 4 stove

Country 4

Had the stove for 4 years. Overall its been a good source of heat but not without its problems which is odd as I have not heard of other stoves with the same amount of problems and I did my research.

We have had to fit a new steel plate to the inside back of stove every year as they distort and tend to sag in the middle and then you get ash in behind. To be fair Charnwood replaced them FOC but even with the newly redesigned one it still happened. Charnwood denied this was a problem but if this is the case why did they go to the lengths of designing a new back plate. In my view if it has more than one bolt to hold it in place and it was made of thicker steel this would solve the problem. Charnwood instructions also made no mention of overburning. even after buying a stovepipe thermometer it still had the same problem.

The stove kicks out a good amount of heat, its easy to light and its quick to heat up. The airwash worked ok and in the time we had it I only had to replace the door seals once.

I did however get fed up with having to replace the plate every year. (Charnwood say its a consumable part and it should last 3/4 years) so when we extended the room I took it upon myself to have the chimney altered and we are fitting a new bigger stove....the Country 6.

Over all I would probably not buy the Country 4 again but Charnwood were pretty good with Customer care and I do like the company.

Stove expert replied: Nice to hear that the company provides good customer service.
