Review of Charnwood Country 16 b stove

Dissapointed

Sam Campbell

I had my previous Charnwood multifuel boiler stove for over 25 years before cracks meant it had to be replaced. I bought this Charnwood because I was so pleased with the last one. I have had this for 12 months and have had continuing problems and as it was a self install can't complain to installer. 1. The ash shedding plates are at a very shallow angle and ash just sits there. and has to be cleared out with a poker every time fire is emptied. 2.The shedding plates foul the ashpan which is difficult to put in. I solved this by angle grinding the side of the ashpan to a curve so that it pushes up the plate as it goes in. 3. The firebars are not so robust as before and most have had to be replaced due to bending. 4. The side grates have also distorted one actually snapped in two. 5. My old stove could burn for three days when fully loaded with anthracite and the deepening bar. This model has no deepening bar and holds less fuel which never completely burns. 6. For some reason the right front part of the fire burns fastest instead of the whole firebed burning evenly. I am trying out some cheaper firebars to see how well they last.

Stove expert replied: Disappointing as previous stove had worked so well, however it does really sound like this new model is undersized for the property leading to over-firing. It is very important to perform a heat load calculation to make sure that a boiler stove is the right size, neither too big, nor too small. I would suggest that the issue with uneven burning should be raised with the retailer/installer.
