Multifuel Grate?

We bought this stove last January and paid extra for the so-called multi fuel grate. It works well with logs, but we cannot get it to burn smokeless fuel at a high enough temperature. Charnwood actually call the extra grate a "riddling grate" and although they sell these to burn smokeless, the literature which comes with it does not mention anything other than wood. A shame the grate does not do what it is supposed to!
