Burley Hollywell Woodburner
We had a great multi fuel burner before the Burley, moved house and wanted to use only wood. this time. We chose the Hollywell because of the efficiency data, clean looking design and large fire window.
It's fantastic. Economical with well seasoned wood of around 10% or 12% moisture content. Lighting is simple and the little notch on the door latch keeps the door slightly ajar for just that purpose. Once well lit, with the door tightly closed with the cam action handle, the fire burns very well. The Burley has a strong circular fireball pattern which keeps single logs of quite large size going by themselves. A 1kg split log can easily last an hour. Then another added catches cleanly while there is a small bed of embers. If you want a really impressive fireball, you can get one with a couple of smaller split logs - but keep windows and doors open! So much heat! The room our Hollywell is in is 18 by 15 feet, large corner windows and a wall to wall glass wall. With the door alone wide open, the room gets HOT just with a small log ticking over. Even with a small fire, the air wash effect keeps the double glazed fire window clear. If you let the fire go out, there is inevitably some discolouration. In practice, when cold, that can mostly be cleaned off with just paper. Once you light a new fire, it gets clear anyway. Externally, the firebox is generally above 160 C, even with a small fire. There is plenty of room on top to cook chestnuts or crumpets with no need to open the door and use a chestnut plate (but it's not as much fun!)- Be the first to comment
