Review of Burley Hollywell 9105 stove

Debdale 4Kw

Omar 11 years ago

I’ve wanted a wood stove for a long time. There’s something from our old hunter /gathering past that echo and manifest in a living fire.

The Burley Debdale 4Kw wood burning stove is excellent. It heats the whole house (6 bed, 3 recep, 1 dining) and we’ve not had the CH on since installation (1.5.12). After having learned how to operate the stove, it’s easy peasy to use and burns away with little attention. Just requires a few logs every one to two hours. Being very efficient (89.6%) the only thing anyone notices looking at the flue exit/cowl outside are a few wisps of water vapour now and then. Won’t burn overnight, but it’s small and only burns wood.

The installation included:

1.Opening up an old and small coal fireplace

2.New lintel + engineering brick

3.6” flue + Leca insulation + pot and cowl

4.Sandstone effect vermiculite back and sides (pointed the ‘joints’ with morter)

5.Tiled black granite hearth

6.Burley ‘room sealing kit’ - air intake from beneath floor crawl space

If you’re good at DIY then take your time and you can achieve a better result than the so called pros.

I absolutely love this stove. Watching the flames dance is mesmerising and with the lights turned down its very cosy and enjoyable. It’s highly controllable too, have it blasting out lots of heat one moment and with a flick of a lever it will settle down to gentle glow in ten minutes.

Wish I’d done it years ago. Ah-well, I’m building a large extension to our house in a few months and will be putting the same stove in. Buy it - you won't regret it.
