Review of Bergen stove
Good stove. Needs patience to get going
This is the first stove we have had - so do not really have anything to compare with - but am really happy with it.
We chose it due to the elegant design and it fits into our lounge very well. As commented elsewhere if there is not a good draw in the chimney then you can struggle a little to get it going - opening a window seems to get better airflow - and sometimes may need to shut the fire door very briefly after lighting - just to get the fumes going up the chimney rather than back into the room. Usually put some smaller wood on initially and leave the door ajar. once the outside panels start to get hot - put some bigger logs on and shut the door. Once there are a bed of hot coals then we decrease the airflow and can just put a few logs on an hour. I do find we need to keep the door open if we need get extra air in the fire, but after a few minutes and when everything is flaming again it can be closed. We did have some tarring on the glass when it was first fitted but I am sure this is due to the fire not getting hot enough - smaller wood and getting it roaring initially has solved this. It kicks out a lot of heat.Stove expert replied: It would be worth checking the flue draw as it seems poor, you may require an air vent which should help.
