Review of Villager Puffin stove

good little stove

Franco Iadicicco 10 years ago

I have had mine for 7 years now on a narrow boat not live aboard it though. Easy to use, kicks out plenty of heat. Most efficient using coal. If using wood the burn rate is too high and heat is poor. Ok for day time. I have found the clips holding glass fail after 2 years then bolts holding the clips will snap off when trying to undo nuts. I have used heat on nuts to help remove them and added copper grease. I am an engineer so I do have an idea or two on how to deal with it. There are four of us with this model all suffer the same. I have now modified mine by simply drilling four holes for bolts and so have the three other owners. The handle adjusting bolt has seized on two puffins one I had to replace and my one which I have not tackled yet. Having said that I would still recommend one having used other stoves. Fix these issues and you get ten out of ten.
