Poor fire brick design

Ian Harvey 7 years ago

I bought this stove in April 2016 and was really impressed with it. It fires out the heat but the fire brick at the back with the 8 holes on it cracked shortly after use. The installer said it was misuse and Termatech wouldn't cover the £20 cost of a new one. I am now on my third brick and again it has cracked within days. It appears that the middle of the brick isn't supported and when anything touches the back brick it seems to weaken it and the heat cracks it further. Other than that and that you can only use hard wood the stove is great. Pity Termatech don't recognise the fault in the rear fire brick, as all other bricks are fine. Installer also claims the stove has got too hot? difficult to know when is too hot and when it isn't especially when the same seasoned hard wood is being used and that's what they stipulate to use.

Stove expert replied: Depending on how the stove is operated and what flue draw is present a stove can be over fired, stove thermometers are a good investment and will guide you to the optimum temperature that it should be operated at. It is a shame that you have had this same problem since purchasing the stove, you are obviously aware to treat with care after previous failings, perhaps an alternative liner would be worth trying.
