Review of Stovax Sheraton stove
Solid, excellent to use and timeless looks
This stove came with the house (an old cottage) and it had issues. I replaced the baffle at the back (angle grinder needed on worn out bolts), the glass and rope - all easy jobs and a testament to the longevity of this stove. The crack on top (not me!) isn't going to get sorted as the top plate will need to be replaced, however it doesn't stop this working and many sweeps have said it's safe to use.
The stove therefore burns a bit bright and fast but it's easily managed, once it's up to a good temp then it can tick over nicely. I always use a flue thermometer as I feel this is crucial to good operation with this stove. I sometimes use the vents above the door too. The glass stays 80% clear with a little muck at the bottom (can easily live with that). It takes large logs, up to 15", and all controls are easy to operate. The ash pan holds about 1 week's ash and is easy to remove. We'll replace it sometime soon and I'll be sad to see it go - but a more efficient stove is needed (one that's not cracked!).Stove expert replied: It is not advisable to use a stove that has a cracked top in case the gases produced during combustion can leak through to the room. Have you a CO2 alarm in the room for safety? Ash should not be left to build up in the pan as this can shorten the life of a grate system and should be emptied at least daily on a multifuel stove when smokeless fuel, is being used.
