Stovax riva 55
Originally we had an open fire grate in a fireplace hole. We looked at getting a Firebelly as we wanted something with a large window. The guy in the shop said look at the Stovax riva 55. He had just put one in his daughters house. He took us round to see it.
It was quite a bit more that the Firebelly (£1300 compared to £900). But we liked it very much. The installers took all day as it was difficult to get the flue attached to the back of the burner. Always a problem they said. On first burn we had a strong residue smell and a slight haze in the room. But boy was it hot! After that we get no smoke or smell. Having now got used to it, it is brilliant. When you turn up the main control, it roars like a blacksmiths forge and the wood glows white hot. Turn the control down and immediately the fire calms down to a good flame. The air wash does indeed keep the glass clean. You see small streaks/ash appear on the glass and then after a while they disappear. When we have the burner running we open all the doors in the house and then don’t need to put the central heating on (although it is mild at the moment). Yesterday the wife had the burner going most of the day. When I got home there were only a few small embers left. Put on a few bits of kindling, opened the air control and within 5 minuets’ I had logs burning again. Its an awesome burner!Stove expert replied: Again a good review for this model, really controllable and easy to use. Good feedback and worth the extra cost.
