Review of Stovax Riva 55 stove

Good so far

Heydown 12 years ago

This is my second winter using this stove just in the evenings. I converted from an open coal fire. I am pleased so far. The low score for build quality is because the rear vermiculite fire bricks have cracked already. Time will tell how long the baffle will last so buyers beware the possible cost in excess of £300 to replace them. The cost of spare parts is outrageous. I have burned smokeless fuel on it and wouldn't recommend this fire for coal fuel use as it is messy and difficult to clear the ash and needs to be cold to prepare for another fire.

I was new to wood burners and have found getting dry seasoned logs was the key to a good clean burning fire. Logs sold as seasoned did not always mean dry logs. I now have logs delivered this winter ready for next winter which has ensured lovely dry timber which burns well.

Overall, pleased with heat output, and yes I agree with the other reviewer it is better than watching the TV

Stove expert replied: The key to heat production is good fuel as this review states. Liners do crack but providing they stay in place and protect the metal of the stove do not need replacing. Fire cement can help to bridge the crack in firebricks.
