Review of Stovax Riva 55 stove

No regrets

Ian Best

We bought this fire to replace a Jetmaster like unit six months ago and have no regrets. We were looking for a fire that gave us more control and that we could close down while out and bring back to life on return ... it certainly fits that requirement. I am still amazed at the way the fire comes to life when you open the air controls.

My one piece of advice if you are using this fire for the first time is to be patient. It did take us a while to get used to using it and there is no real subsitute for experimenting with the air controls to get the best for your installation. The settings that we use for lighting and operating the fire are quite different to the guidance in the manual. I really think that it is a case of trying different settings to find what works best for your fire and chimney.

I notice that some reviews have marked the appliance down on overnight burning and at first we were a bit disappointed but now that we have worked out the right settings it is great. We have found that Newflame works best for overnight burning.

The one thing that we have really noticed is how our fuel usage has dropped dramatically which, with the cost of fuel these days, has to be a big plus.

To summarise; great control, more heat and less fuel
