Review of Stovax Riva 50 stove

Extremely disappointed

Colin Barras 4 years ago

Purchased October 2018 used over this winter with no real problem. No use in summer then fired up again October 2019. After a few days it was not working properly and appeared to have too much draw. Got installer in only to find the inside of the fire needed to be replaced. Guarantee did not apply seemingly. Waited three months for the parts and still you cannot control the burn properly. It goes far too hard and fast. Used once since repair, I am not a happy camper at all. I feel like ripping the whole thing out. It cost over £500 for repairs and all in all over £3,000 down the drain.

Stove expert replied: Have you had the chimney swept since the stove was installed? Are the rope seals all in tact as I assume that it was internal liners that have been replaced - these are not covered by warranty which is normal practise by manufacturers as they are classed as consumable items. As there is a noticeable change in how the stove is performing, it is a question of finding out what has changed - this may be higher trees surrounding the property, change in wind direction, internal alterations where another fireplace is now being used - so can be quite a diverse process to ascertain this and then take steps to alleviate its affect. Having been happy with the stove initially it is worth trying to find a solution so you can fully appreciate it again.
