Review of Morso Squirrel Cleanheat stove
Excellent Stove
I use anthracite with this stove and have found it to be extremely economical and efficient. It uses two thirds less fuel than my old stove (Parkray 66) for marginally more output. To give an idea of output, it is heating up an area of 96 cubic yards plus the hot water tank. I have three radiators hooked up and it manages those as well. Two are in constant use and one is for extremely cold weather only.
Adding extra side bricks is to be recommended when burning anthracite since this makes it more efficient. When lighting the (anthracite) fire it is best to ignore the booklet's advice. Fully open the ashpit door. Light one firelighter then add four or more sticks of firewood then cover with coal; making sure you don't choke the fire. The fire will be roaring in about three minutes, partly close the door until satisfied the coal is burning well. Finally close the door completely and regulate by the damper. Overnight burning works best with the damper unscrewed two turns back from closed. One quirk of this stove is that the door glass splits if you keep the door closed too firmly during use. Fitting the back boiler is a fiddly affair and took me an afternoon.Stove expert replied: If you do light your stove like this on coal then please make VERY sure that you do not leave it with the ash pan door open. If you leave it like that on coal it would burn too hot and damage the stove.
