Compared to the Stockton hb8 firebox is not as big but I feel like it''s slightly more efficient.the soot collects on top of the boiler jacket just below flue outlet which is crucial to keep clear.being a downdraft stove sometimes depends on outside temperature if it''s going to smoke you out inside the house.but generally during the winter it''s fine.also scrapping of tar from boiler jacket helps for more hot water.
As long as you have plentiful supply of wood back boiler stoves are ok.id say burning wood it''s realistically 4-5kw to the water max The stovax Stockton hb8 was more like 3kw maybe coal would achieve a different output?
