Review of Mendip 8 stove

Great performer

I have the Claret enamel finish and its been installed for three years. I have an exterior lined flue which can be troublesome in cold weather. Naturally the air in the flue is at the same temperature and density as ambient. When lighting the burner pre-heating the whole thing really helps, I use a gas bottle with a blowtorch attachment.

Once it's going it is very efficient and I mostly run it with the air damper nearly closed, I also burn Brazier smokeless fuel which keeps the fire going nicely overnight, all ready for a riddling and fresh wood. I can empty the ash tray, with great care, easily making the burner able to run for days on end. The enameling is great quality, all in all, I'm very happy with it.

Stove expert replied: Cold flue systems can give rise to initial lighting difficulties regardless of whether they are of standard construction or the twin walled systems widely used but pre-heating is a great way to overcome this. Once warm the gases have the lift that enables the flue to draw well and provide the efficient burning conditions required for a closed appliance. Great feedback.
