Does this mean it was installed badly as the instructions say no dampener should be used on the flue?

Stove expert replied: Only flues that have a strong draw should entertain having a damper in them, they are not recommended unless there is an alternative access for sweeping the chimney rather than through the stove as this would prevent this once a damper is fitted. The preferred option is a stabilzer as this does not fowl the flue. Suggest speaking to a flue expert.

    Hullo, if you've got to open dampers wide to get a good fire, and as a result all the heat is going up the chimney, either a) your chimney is not drawing properly (which could be a chimney position or blockage problem or a room venting problem (which is dangerous because of the hazard of Carbon monoxide)) or b) your wood is too wet. It has to be really dry to burn hot without wide open dampers.
