Review of Little Wenlock stove
Great stove. Shame about the glass.
We have had this great little stove for just over 2 years. It has been an almost perfect solution to heating our main living room with the unexpected but much welcome benefit of radiating heat all through our home. This great little heat source is highly effective, efficient and economical to run. The build quality is very good. We have encountered just a few issues. We use a few sticks and a firelighter to get things going and then only burn phurnacite ovals. We find the glass in the door does discolour no matter what setting of air flow we use and the glass became pitted very soon after use. In fact we recently replaced the glass and the same issue is already apparent. It is not a fuel issue because we use exactly the same fuel and lighting arrangement with a much cheaper stove in our second home and the glass remains clear and faultless. Note that replacing glass is no easy task as the 4 screws holding the glass in place are extremely difficult to remove. We had to remove the door and take it to a friendly mechanic for assistance.
Spare parts are comparatively expensive some do need replacing like for like, for example, fire bricks. But all in all we love our Little Wenlock stove and readily recommend it to friends.Stove expert replied: Glass discolouration can be caused from damp wood, not enough air flow, the stove being shut down for long periods or over firing. Different symptoms for the last two, a smokey film for over firing and a spiders web that gradually creeps across the glass is from the stove being shut down for long periods.
